Stephanie Ann Kehaulani Atiz, 68, of Papaikou, died Dec. 22, 2022 in the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Honolulu on June 4, 1954, she worked as a secretary for Hawaiian Host Candies and was a pastor at The Way, The Truth, The Life Fellowship Church. Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo on Jan. from 5 to 6 p.m.; wake service will begin at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at Dodo Mortuary chapel on Jan. 5 from 9 to 10 a.m.; funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2 in Hilo at noon. Casual attire is requested. She is survived by husband, Reginald Atiz Sr.; children, Reginald (Jean) Atiz Jr., Richard (Rebecca) Atiz Sr. and Ryan (Jowell) Atiz ; brother, Solomon Whitney, III ; sister: Raechelle Whitney of Hilo; in-laws, Sandra (Herman) Cullio of Hilo, Rita (Rick) Tellis of California, Roy Atiz, all of Hilo, Cynthia (Edgar) Atiz-Desamparado of Kauai, Donna (Gerard) Silva of Hilo and Abigail (Juan) Pascua of Hilo; hanai mother, Pastor Lillian Kaaumoana of Hilo; hanai sister, Pastor Roberta Trevino of Hilo; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Ronald “Ron” Asis Mauricio, 83, of Pahoa, died Dec. 20, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born June 28, 1939, in Oquendo, Samar, Visayas, Philippines. Services held. He is survived by wife, Erlinda Mauricio of Pahoa; children, Wealth (Bobbet) Mauricio, NeeJan (Louie) Gubat and Christian (Mayan) Mauricio of Philippines; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Daniel Surin Sr.
Daniel Charles Surin Sr., 80, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 17, 2022 in Kealakekua. Born Aug. 10, 1942, in New York City, he managed the St. Regis hotel and opened Abetone Ristorante in Denver. He is survived by son, Daniel (Vivian) Surin Jr. of Silt, Colorado; daughters Kendra Surin of Ocean City, Maryland; Margot (Tom) Hayes of Vero Beach, Florida; Kathy (Tom) Martin of Scarsdale, New York; and one grandchild. Pauline Hideko Kaya Sakai, 81, of Hilo, died Dec. 14, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was retired from Waiakeawaena Elementary School. Private services were held.
